2018 World Champ U19's & U16's
During the last NXL Europe event for 2018, the European Paintball Federation hosted the U19 Paintball World Championship which allows countries to showcase their young and upcoming players competing against national teams from around the world.
This year saw 8 countries represented in the U19 Paintball World Championship:
Great Britain
Italy
Russia
Norway
Sweden
France
Poland
South Africa
During the Preliminary rounds on Thursday 27 September Norway showed extreme dominance on the field from early on with a 3-2, 4-0, 4-1 victory over Great Britain, South Africa and Sweden in their bracket.
South Africa, with mainly new U19 players this year, had a tough time against Sweden in their first preliminary round, but were able to pull off a 3-2 win, but then loosing against Norway. A tough final battle between South Africa and Great Britain broke out as this was a deciding game for both countries on who will be able to progress to the play-offs. In a nail-biting overtime match it was South Africa that claimed the 2-1 victory knocking Great Britain out of the opportunity to compete in the play-offs this year.
In the second bracket it was France that showed a strong dominance, as expected, with a 4-1, 4-0, 3-2 win over Poland, Italy and Russia.
Russia also played great paintball and took a 4-0 victory over Poland and another 4-1 victory over Italy. Any game between France and Russia is always worthwhile watching, and these two countries both showed just how much effort they put into their young players growing the future of paintball, it was however France that claimed the victory during the prelims with a 3-2 win over Russia.
During the Semi-Finals it was France taking on South Africa, but here France again showed their dominance with a 4-1 victory. The battle between Russia and Norway was a lot closer, but Russia was able to claim a 2-1 victory over Norway giving them the opportunity to redeem themselves against France in the finals.
During the finals competing for 3rd South Africa gave everything they got, but a stronger Norway dominated and was able to claim a 4-1 victory giving them a 3rd place position in this years U19 Paintball World Championship.
The final battle between France and Russia was fierce with tight points being played, but it was Russia that was able to turn the tables just in time and secure the gold for the Russian U19 team.
This also means that Russia claimed all the World Championship titles in the 5-man categories for 2018 including Veterans, Womens, Mens and U19’s.
A big thank you to all the countries that competed and that invest into the future of their players.

2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP U16
During the last NXL Europe event for 2018, the European Paintball Federation hosted also the U16 Paintball World Championship which allows countries to showcase their kids from 12 to 16 years old competing against national teams from around the world.
This year 5 countries were represented in the U16 Paintball World Championship:
Russia
Latvia
Sweden
France
Poland
First the idea was to hold the event in 3man format, as it was last year in Chantilly during the Millennium event. But after speaking with the National Federations, we have changed the format to 5man as more competitive, due to the World Champion's title.
Despite that we still kept 50cal mechanical markers with electronic loaders with no pods on field, just loaders. It was done for the certain reason: to make the games more dynamis and more spectacular.
Also we were hoping to have the final game on PRO field with the online webcast coverage. Unfortunately for this year despite the race-to-2 format, the preliminary games took too long and there was no time to play the final game on PRO field. By having 4 preliminary games for every team, young players were taking every point seriously. For many of them it was the very first time on the international event. Many of them were travelling with their parents, who were supporting them from the spectator`s area all the time!
As for the first World Championship in 2018 category there were a lot of mistakes in the organisation and we have gained a lot of experience for the future. But the for one thing we are sure: we will continue with U16 Championship for sure!
A big thank you to all the countries that competed and that invest into the future of their players. A big thank you to all the sponsors of the various national teams supporting them to represent their country, especially Planet Eclipse and French Federation for markers providing.
Thank you to the NXL Europe allowing the U16 Paintball World Championship event to take place in conjunction with their event, as well as to the NXL Media team for capturing the moments during the event.
We are looking forward to see what our young players will bring to the sport moving forward.
