2018 World Champ Men's
The United Paintball Federation (UPBF) Mens Paintball World Championship organized by the European Paintball Federation (EPBF) and held in conjunction with the NXL Europe took place during 5 & 6 July in Basildon, UK.
15 countries competed in this prestigious event this year where top players from their respective countries were selected to represent their country and compete in the UPBF Mens Paintball World Championship.
The teams were grouped together in their respective brackets according to previous year standings.
The format that was played was Race-to-4 with a 10 minute game time and limited paint (M500).
Due to an extreme heat-wave in the UK the playing surface was more challenging than anticipated and extremely hot weather made this event even more challenging than usual for all involved, but as the saying goes "The show must go on".
The battle between the countries were fierce during the prelims and it was great to watch teams with players with so much passion competing for top spots for their country and playing their hearts out till the end.
At the end of the prelims it was however only the top 2 teams from each bracket that progressed to the quarter final knock-out rounds where things heated up even more.
France (4) vs Finland (0)
Norway (4) vs Germany (0)
Russia (4) vs South Africa (0)
United States (4) vs Great Britain (1)
The semi-finals saw Russia winning France (4-1) and the USA beating Norway (4-0)
The finals were definitely something not to be missed.
It was intense battles between Russia and the United States who have been dominating the Men's division for the past few years as well as Norway showing extremely strong force against a very strong France.
Russia was able to pull off a 4-1 win against the USA in a epic showdown with France beating Norway 2-1 in another intense close match to the end.
Congratulations to Russia for the awesome win!
A big thank you to all the federations for the assistance in sending your representative teams to compete in this prestigious event and doing your bit to help grow the sport on a international level. We also salute all the sponsors that came on-board to support the respective national teams.
Thank you to the NXL Europe for allowing us to use the facilities during the event, providing the referees that did a excellent job and also the support from a excellent NXL media team and GoSports for broadcasting the semi's and finals to a even larger viewer base.
Now we are looking forward to the UPBF U19 World Championship that will take place in conjunction with the 2018 NXL Europe Paris-Chantilly Open at the end of September. We hope to see you there!
